Andrea Lothar
born in 1967 in Hamburg, in the north of Germany.

For the last 40 years the artist has been experimenting with the camera. In the 1990s she expanded her knowledge in black & white photography by learning from Herbert Wagner and Carmen Oberst, both well-known teachers and artists in Hamburg.

After many experimental works in black-and-white around the turn of Millenium, Andrea Lothar was dealing with colour and light gradients in free nature from 2014 to 2019.

In her current art things are not always what they seem to be! Lothar´s pictures challenge the beholder to question his own perception of reality, to open his mind for whatever is not obvious.

"Das besondere an der Technik von Andrea Lothar ist, dass im Grunde die Realität fotografiert wird. ONLY ONE SHOT! Mit unterschiedlichen Belichtungszeiten und den äußeren Einflüssen, die die Natur vorgibt. Je nach Sonnenstand, Jahreszeit, wieviel Lichteinfall z. B. zwischen den Bäumen herrscht. Welche Bewegung ausgeführt wird und wieviel Feuchtigkeit sich in der Luft oder an der Rinde befindet. Das sind die eigentlichen "Maler" der Bilder."
